2026 Community Connections: Conversations around gender equality

Thank you to everyone who attended our Community Connections workshops this Fall term!

We began the 2025 Community Connections series on a creative note with our Art Night. While enjoying painting and creative paper crafts, our participants connected over conversation about gender and the arts. Learning from each other's family histories and personal stories, we reflected on the way gender has played a role in our creative expression throughout our lives.

In October, we enjoyed the beautiful fall colours as we took a walk through the Trent Wildlife Sanctuary. As we enjoyed the natural world around us, this sparked conversation on mindfulness in the environment and how being an active listener and learned can apply to issues related to social justice and inequality.

To bring everyone together in November, we gathered in the KWIC E.Y.E. Centre to share a meal. Over chili and hot apple cider, our participants shared their own personal experiences with social justice work in our community. Connecting through the challenges faced, we brainstormed ideas to work together to fulfil our vision for the Peterborough community we hope to see.

Finally, in celebrating the conclusion of our 2025 Community Connections workshop series, participants gathered downtown at Boardwalk Board Game Lounge! This joyful evening of games and good eats brought us together for some fun. It also led us to reflective conversation on the ways games and role playing characters can allow everyone to explore different gender expressions and reflect upon their own identity. It also gave us a change to thoughtfully engage with the game media and gender representation.

Topics like gender equality can sometimes be difficult to know how to talk about, but with Community Connections, we focus on connecting with one another first and enriching conversation always follows!

A heartfelt thank you to all who participated in making this year's Community Connections such a meaningful success!
