What does Kawartha World Issues Centre do?
From 2006 to 2008, KWIC’s programming will focus on environmental issues,
particularly climate change and food issues, while continuing to be responsive
to local interests through co-sponsorship of additional events of various
world issues. Public Programmes & NetworkingKWIC organizes public meetings to discuss global and local issues, offers workshop planning and facilitation sessions, and provides support to local educators for global education programming in the classroom. In co-operation with other groups and individuals, KWIC is involved in annual activities around special international events including:
KWIC networks with community-based and educational organizations in
the Peterborough and wider community. ResourcesKWIC’s Global Education and Resource offers a free-of-charge, lending library which is open to the public and contains current and historical materials on global issues. Books, resource kits, local and international magazines and videos can be signed out from the centre. KWIC volunteers support and sit on local organizing committees, such as the Women’s Events Committee. KWIC currently hosts the Community Calendar, assisting groups with the
posting and distribution on local events. Who does KWIC work with?
How is KWIC funded?KWIC is financially supported by the community, through individual and group memberships, donations, special fundraising projects, such as the annual KWIC Bowl the World fundraising bowlathon, and by aTrent University student levy. KWIC periodically receives Provincial or Federal government funding for special projects and programmes. Thank you to City of Peterborough, Trent University, Trent Environmental and Resource Sciences and Trent International Programme for ongoing support for KWIC events and program. |
